NC House of Representatives                       District 9

    Voters Choose One

Claire Kempner, candidate, NC House District 9

    Claire Kempner

    Your current job and title?

I am a stay-at-home mom, wife and advocate who believes in the collective power of community.

Your highest level of education? Bachelor’s Degree

If you're elected or re-elected, what will be your top priority. Why?

Educator pay is a huge concern of mine. Although salaries have risen, they have not kept up with inflation, North Carolina’s neighboring states, or the national average. If the Republican supermajority is using public taxpayer dollars to siphon hundreds of millions of dollars for private school vouchers, they can find a way to pay educators a wage they deserve.

If you're elected or re-elected, how will you involve your constituents in the process of making decisions?

My favorite part about running this campaign has been knocking on doors and hearing from voters. I want to know what issues matter to them and what I can do to help improve their lives. Once elected -- I will continue to reach out to the community in this same manner -- one-on-one interactions, community forums and via email and social media.

Why should voters choose you for the position you're running for?

As mom of three young children, I am uniquely qualified to understand the everyday struggles that the residents of Pitt County deal with on a day to day basis to make ends meet. I will advocate for the needs of our families and workers.

Which three things about you do you most want voters to know?

    · Serving my community is very important to me. I have served as the Secretary of the Pitt County Democratic Party. I have been a key contributor to local campaigns for State House & municipal elections. Additionally, I have advocated for commonsense gun safety laws as the NC Chapter Leader of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

    · I moved to Pitt County sight unseen in 2016, and it has become the place that I have chosen to raise my three kids.

    · When not talking to voters or watching my kids play soccer, you can find me baking loaves of sourdough or working in my
    garden.

Is there anything else about you that you wish to tell voters?

Thank you for being an educated voter and please remember to fill out both pages of your ballot. Flip it, don’t skip it! Early voting begins Oct 17. Voting early gives you the freedom to fix any issues you might discover with your voter registration and Pitt County has seven early voting locations around the county. The Alice Keene center will not be an early-vote location this election. Local elections impact so many aspects of your life. To help voters find their sample ballot, I’ve included a direct link to find your sample ballot via my website, www.clairefornc.com

Why should voters choose you for the position you're running for?

Over my last two-year term, I have been a fierce advocate for Pitt County and ECU. I was able to achieve significant victories in the budget with nearly $500 million for ECU and ECU Health, $16 million for water and sewer projects, $20 million for the Brody School of Medicine construction, and $500,000 for Pitt-Greenville airport. As a freshman legislator, I was able to help pass significant legislation to improve education, reduce taxes, protect rural healthcare and hospitals, and increase pay for state employees.
As a physician legislator, I am uniquely qualified to help improve the quality of our health care system and work to make it more affordable.

Which three things about you do you most want voters to know?

    · I will work hard every day to advocate for my district and improve North Carolina

    · I value your feedback and want to help solve problems for you and our community

    · I believe in working together to understand different views, talking, and consensus building to arrive at solutions.

Is there anything else about you that you wish to tell voters?

It has been an honor to represent Pitt County in the House of Representatives. I am dedicated to ensuring that our community excels in the future. This requires ensuring support for our families, an excellent educational system, a growing economy with available jobs, and a safe community that is a destination in which to live. I look forward to representing you for the next two years.
